The Amalfi coast and Amalfi town itself can be reached either by boat or bus from Sorrento (non-residents cannot enter the old town centre but there is parking near the port area). It is a relatively compact town and therefore easy to visit its main sites including its cathedral (where the relics of Saint Andrew were transferred from Constantinople in 1206) which are mostly grouped around the Piazza Duomo. The beach area gets busy in main season.

Positano can again be reached from Sorrento by boat or coach in which case you can get a small local bus down into the town centre. Driving means trying to find a parking space, probably in the higher areas of the town; the climb back may be a challenge. However it is a very pretty and upmarket resort with plenty of restaurants and shops both around the port and reachable by (courtesy) boats from the harbour area. The town beach can get busy in high season, but there is another beach along a path along the cliffs with stunning views.

The drive up to Ravello is winding but worth it. Superb views, a more relaxed feel than its coastal counterparts and if you are lucky an opportunity for a bit of Wagner?
